3 posts · Joined 2010. #1 · Apr 27, 2010 (Edited) i have a 1996 328i convertible and i cant get the lid to open. the top will go down but stop because the lid wont open to allow the top to fold in underneath. i went under the seat pulled the lever to disengage the motors, but the lid is still locked shut. it wont budge, and i dont wanna pull
My roof was working fine, then just totally stopped working, even the windows didn't drop before the roof opening cycle, checked all fuses (ok) there are several that protect the roof electrics including one in the boot near the battery, had visions of expensive motors and control relays, but a friend who is a BMW tech suggested checking out

Not really sure what to do, I tried pulling the lever under the left rear seat to release the convertible top motors but that didn't seem to work. UPDATE: we managed to detach the top part of the roof through screwing the allen key under the convertible roof compartment, but we cannot move it back any further.
